Field Set for Gold Medal Round on Monday

Salt Lake City, UTAH

Ryle Smith of Oakdale, Calif., could walk away on Monday as a very rich man.

Smith punched his ticket to the Finals on Monday in the tie-down roping during Day 3 competition on Friday night. He returned on Saturday in the steer wrestling to earn another spot in Monday's finals. Smith stopped the clock in 4.0 seconds to lead the way in the steer wrestling followed by Jon Ragatz of Beetown, Wis., with a 4.3. Each champion on Monday will earn $50,000, so Smith could walk away with $100,000 should he take top honors in both steer wrestling and tie-down roping. He will be the only contestant in two events on Monday.

The Komatsu Equipment Days of ’47 Cowboy Games & Rodeo presented by Zions Bank, July 19-22 and 24, is taking place at the all-new, $17.5 million, state-of-the-art Days of ’47 Arena at the Utah State Fair Park. The venue—an outdoor arena located in the heart of Salt Lake City—and features over 10,000 stadium-style seats.

Mason Clements and Jessy Davis earned a spot in Monday's Gold Medal Round after finishing in the top two on Saturday night. Clements of Santaquin, Utah, scored 86 points on Rosser Rodeo's Peppy Bound, while Davis of Power, Mont, finished with an 84 on Flying Five Rodeo's Young Living Farms Cougar Country.

It was a rough night in the team roping but when the dust settled Lane Ivy of Adrian, Texas, and Trace Porter would finish atop the leaderboard with a 4.7 second run, followed closely by the team of Clayton Hass of Weatherford, Texas and John Robertson of Polson, Mont., with a 4.8.

Jake Wright will join his nephews on Monday night in hopes of winning $50,000 and a gold medal. Wright won the saddle bronc riding on Saturday night with an 83.5 point ride on Big Bend Rodeo's Major Cover. There was a three way tie for second with Cort Scheer, Cody DeMoss and Isaac Diaz all scoring 81.5 points. The tie-breaker used at the Days of '47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo is the score given by the back judge. DeMoss finished with the higher back judge score with an 82.5 compared to Diaz with an 82. DeMoss rode Rosser Rodeo's Justified.

Cimarron Boardman of Stephenville, Texas, won the tie-down roping on Saturday night with a time of 7.9 seconds. Trevor Brazile finished second in 8.4 seconds to qualify for the gold medal round. Brazile has 23 gold buckles in his trophy case and would love nothing more than to add a very unique gold medal to that collection. Not to mention a check worth $50,000 that will count toward the world standings. Brazile is currently ranked 30th in the world with $31,793, which is $16,290 out of the Top 15. He will have a chance at a large payday and a medal on Monday night at 7 p.m.

Recently college graduate from Texas A&M University and College National Finals Rodeo champion Hailey Kinsel smoked the pattern in Salt Lake City on Saturday night. She stopped the clock in 16.94 seconds, the fastest time put up all week on this pattern. Kinsel of Cotulla, Texas, is currently ranked 24th with $37,217 and is looking for a big payday on Monday to move into the top 15 and a shot at her first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Kinsel finished tied for third in the WPRA Qualifier with Kelly Tovar, held at the Days of '47 Arena on Tuesday night to qualify into tonight's performance. Tovar finished second on Saturday night with a 17.16 to punch her ticket to Monday night's performance. So Kinsel and Tovar were the last two contestants to earn a spot in the barrel racing and they are moving on for a chance at $50,000.

Tyler Bingham will join older brother Tim on Monday night with $50,000 and gold, silver and bronze medals on the line. Bingham of Honeyville, Utah, finished in a tie for first on Saturday night with an 81.5 point ride on Diamond G Rodeo's Tawa. Fellow Utahan Kurtis Turner will going the Binghams on Monday after riding Diamond G Rodeo's Magic Snowball for 81.5.

The field is now set for the much anticipated Gold Medal Round at the Days of '47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo on Monday at 7 p.m.

KSL.com will be live streaming from the event every night and the Gold Medal Round will be televised on CBS Sports Network on July 30 at 8 p.m. ET.
