2024 World Champion Bull Rider Josh Frost
By Patrick Everson
On a night when many contestants had to sweat it out, Josh Frost got a relatively perspiration-free finish to his Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. And with it, the bull rider from Randlett, Utah, secured his first world championship.
Frost had a huge 10 days at the Thomas & Mack Center, staying aboard and cashing on seven bulls while racking up $169,432 in go-round money. He won the fourth and sixth go-rounds, and tied for second in the first go-round.

And he was the only rider to cover seven bulls. So along with all that go-round money, Frost claimed the huge first-place NFR average check of $86,391.
Add to that the $10,000 bonus all NFR qualifiers receive, and Frost approached half-a-million dollars in winnings for the 2024 season. To be exact, the bull rider from Randlett, Utah, finished with $476,887.
âI came into this Finals with a very specific plan. My goal was to ride seven out of 10. I met that goal, and Iâm riding out of here with a world title,â Frost said.
The third-generation rodeo cowboy now has a gold buckle to match that of his second cousin, the late Lane Frost, who won the bull riding world title in 1987.
âWe were talking about the Frost Legacy. It goes back to my great uncle and my grandfather,â Frost said. âWe live and breathe rodeo in the Frost family. Itâs cool to put my name up there with Laneâs.â
Josh finally grabbed the gold buckle after finishing second in the world the past three years.
âIâve been close three years in a row. That was a huge motivator to keep coming back,â he said. âWinning that average title is really important to that world race.â
Indeed. World No. 2 Hayes Weight finished the season with $400,061, or about the size of that first-place average check behind Frost.
The world championship is a long way from 2019, when Frost first made the NFR.
âThat was the worst NFR ever, bucking off of 10 bulls,â he said. âNow, it feels great. Itâs what you dream of.â
