Silverton, South Point reveal major NFR entertainment performances, parties, more

Here we go with the first go-round of Hurly’s NFR Hot Spots, your guide blog to the off-the-dirt action.

I’m Hurly and you’re not, and I request of you to let me help plan your 2019 Wrangler NFR experience. And I make that request with the gentlemanly swagger and respect with which a cowboy asks a cowgirl for a two-step at the local saloon.

Thank you kindly in advance for your readership …

An area south of the Las Vegas Strip has become a go-to destination area for Wrangler National Finals Rodeo fans, competitors, entertainers, exhibitors and anyone who appreciates the country & Western lifestyle during those legendary 10 days and nights each December in Las Vegas.

More of the same stellar and exciting entertainment that the area is known for will be on full display again this year as part of off-the-Thomas-&-Mack-Center-dirt action at the Silverton Hotel, and Casino and the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa. The Wrangler NFR is Dec. 5-14 and action at the Silverton and South Point begins before the first grand entry and lasts until after the final world champ has been “crowned”, well in this case, “gold-buckled.”

The Silverton is home to the official Cowboys & Indians Magazine Best of the West Ball Dec. 12, which will feature performances by Randy Brown and Roger Creager, great door prizes from Cowboys & Indians advertisers and a live in-arena Wrangler NFR rodeo video feed.

SIL_FrontEntrancePassion defines the Wrangler NFR and everything that goes along with it, and the match between the Silverton and Cowboys & Indians Magazine takes the party and NFR experience to the next level. Cowboys & Indians editors describe the publication like this: “It’s about passion. Our pages are filled with it. Passion for a place called the American West. Passion for the lifestyle, the attitude, the outlook.”

That passion will blossom to life at the Best of the West ball.

Other Silverton/NFR events include free viewing parties presented by 102.7 FM The Coyote, which are open to all ages, unlike many other over-21 viewing parties around the city.

In addition, there will be free concerts and unmatched food and drink specials throughout the 10 days. The Silverton also features specific NFR room packages that include guest room and rodeo tickets, transportation to the Thomas & Mack Center and other goodies.

Ned Ledoux at Silverton - John PlummerHeadliners at Silverton during the Wrangler NFR include Ned Ledoux (Dec. 5-6), Chris Heers (Dec. 7), Holly Tucker and Chris Heers (Dec. 8), Holly Tucker and Chase & the Pursuit (Dec. 9), Lainey Wilson (Dec. 10-11), Randy Brown (Dec. 13) and Voodoo Cowboys (Dec. 14).

“The Wrangler NFR is the most significant event of the year, which electrifies Las Vegas with two weeks of focused entertainment,” says Silverton president Craig Cavileer. “We are fully engaged and on brand with our lux lodge resort experience.”

The South Point is a leader of the class in heads in beds of country & Western aficionados. The 2100-room South Point is home to the epic Ariat World Series of Team Roping–free for fans to watch as thousands of competitors rope and ride for $13 million in prize money at the South Point Equestrian Center and Priefert Arena —and several other major parties, viewing events and shows. Quite simply, the South Point is a place to be and be seen.

SouthPointPool1“At the South Point, our events keep getting bigger and better,” says Ryan Growney, South Point’s general manager and Wrangler NFR committee member.

A simple truth never needs additional clarification …

Growney, of course, knows of what he speaks, and part of his “bigger and better” includes a multi-million room renovation that will be ready to go by the Wrangler NFR plus the entire South Point embraces rodeo and team roping fans.

The Western Gift Show features more than 150 vendors and other excitement, while other arena events include the Miss Rodeo America Pageant Horsemanship competition Dec. 2, Benny Binion’s Bucking Horse and Bull Sale Dec. 5, the World Bronc Futurity Dec. 6 and the Ariat World Series of Team Roping Dec. 7-15.

SOUTHPOINT WATSON 1Entertainers Chancey Williams (Dec. 4), Aaron Watson (Dec. 5-8), Josh Ward (Dec. 9-11) and Randall King (Dec. 12-14) headline the South Point Showroom and official Gold Buckle Presentations take place nightly at 11 p.m. following the shows. The buckle shindig is hosted by Flint Rasmussen and Randy Corley.

Also nightly at the South Point is the Ram Rodeo Tailgate party with live in-arena video feeds from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m, food and drink specials and much more.

SP 21“It has been absolutely amazing watching the Wrangler NFR grow year in and year out,” says Growney. “I always say there’s no way this thing can get bigger each year, but then every year it does. It’s great to see that the Western lifestyle is alive and well in our country, and there’s no better place to see that on display than during the NFR each year here in Las Vegas and here at South Point.”
