Great Night to be Wright at the Days of '47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo

Salt Lake City, UTAH

It was a great night to be a Wright at the first-of-its-kind Days of '47 Cowboys Games and Rodeo.

In saddle bronc riding, the Utah fans were treated to three of the best with father, Cody Wright, and sons Rusty and Ryder Wright all from Milford. The sons took top honors and will move onto Monday night's Gold Medal Round and a chance at $50,000.

Rusty Wright lead the way with a 79 point ride on Diamond G Rodeo's Black Eyed Shaw, while younger brother, Ryder finished with a 75 on Diamond G Rodeo's I Got the Assets with Zions Bank. Cody finished third with 72 points on Flying U Rodeo's Get Rhythm, who drove in from Gillette, Wyo., after watching son, Stetson, compete in the National High School Rodeo Finals.

"I love being able to compete for this kind of money right here in our backyard," said Rusty Wright. "I just wish we could all have made it back to Monday but blessed to be moving on."

Four-time Wrangler NFR qualifier J.R. Vezain will have a chance to compete for a gold medal on Monday after receiving an 87.5 point ride on Diamond G Rodeo's Komatsu's Miss Nancy. Tilden Hooper will join Vezain on Monday after posting an 82 point ride on Rosser Rodeo's Get Your Kix.

Steer wrestlers Jace Melvin and Tyler Pearson will make a return trip to Salt Lake City on Monday for a chance to win $50,000 as will team ropers Brady Tryan and Kory Mytty along with Tom Richards and Kyle Lockett.

2013 PRCA World Champion Shane Hanchey will be back to try and add a gold medal to his gold collection after stopping the clock in 7.7 seconds. Hunter Herrin was second with a 8.0.

Having already smashed the WPRA regular season earnings record, Schuster continues to add to that total. She took top honors on Thursday night stopping the clock in 17.17 seconds to add another $3,200. More importantly she will be back on Monday to try and snag that $50,000 check that will be awarded to the winner. Times and scores from previous rounds will not carry forward so everyone starts with a clean slate on Monday. Ari-Anna Flynn will try to steal the show on Monday after taking second on the second night with 17.25 second run.

The night closed with No. 1 ranked bull rider Garrett Smith of Rexburg, Idaho, showed the Utah crowd why he has that ranking. He rode Diamond G Rodeo's Elk Bug for 83.5 points to easily advance to Monday night and try to hold off hard charging three-time world champion Sage Kimzey, who is ranked second and punched his ticket on opening night for the Gold Medal Round. Ty Wallace of Collbran, Colo., will also return on Monday after posting a 79 on Diamond G Rodeo's Urie's Own Crusher.

KSL.com will be live streaming from the event every night and the Gold Medal Round will be televised on CBS Sports Network on July 30 at 8 p.m. ET.
